Entrance Doors in the 1920s and 1930s:

In the 1920s and 1930s, traditional front doors were typically painted in dark colours, like black and green. Many were painted with contrasting panels and cast iron door furniture was preferred. However, during these two decades, two new design styles peaked in popularity. They are referred to as Art Deco and Streamline Moderne.

Art Deco emerged in the 1920s, but flourished in the 1930s. The style was modern, new, fresh and very decorative. The style can be characterised by rich colours, bold geometric shapes and lavish ornamentation.

Later in the 1930s, the Streamline Moderne-style emerged. This type of design is closely related to Art Deco. Familiar elements of this architectural style include curving forms, chrome hardware, porthole windows and long horizontal lines. In terms of doors, a trend emerged for lighter and more subdued colours. In addition, large, colourful geometric glass designs were often used.
